most of the good early morning game viewing hours. We
collect you from your guest house at 5 am (later
departures on request) and drive 45 minutes to the
Nyalazi Gate, the closest access into Hluhluwe-iMfolozi
from St Lucia.
After an introduction to the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, your guide will take you to the best game viewing areas at the time, depending upon seasonal and daily game movements. We make a stop for breakfast in a scenic outdoor picnic site for coffee, tea, fruit juices and a variety spread of health bread, cheese, yogurt, muesli, muffins and fruit.
The lunch stop is also out in the wilderness and consists of a variety of cold meats, salads, bread rolls and preserves. Fruit juices and water are provided with breakfast and lunch.

What you may see
Hluhluwe-iMfolozi park is home to 46 mammal species and 440 different types of birds. All of the Big 5 occur in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park and the park is home to the highest concentration of rhino, ensuring sightings of many animals on your day trip from St Lucia. Regular sightings include elephants, lions, rhino, giraffe, leopard, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, a variety of antelope.
Bird watching in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi is also fantastic, with birds ranging from the small Sunbirds to the giant eagles and vultures. Unlike many other parks in Africa, Hluhluwe has a landscape consisting of hills and small mountains, offering fantastic scenery and views over the park all day long. You will see magnificent countryside and lots of animals and birds, large and small.

What to bring
Our day trips from St Lucia
are in open safari vehicles (except on rainy days
where we do have closed vehicles available for your
comfort), so be sure to bring a jacket/windbreaker
for the early morning. The open safari vehicles do
have a roof, but the sun does come through the side
of the vehicles, so bring along some sunscreen and a
hat. Bring your camera and a pair of binoculars
along on your day trip. If you don't have
binoculars, your guide will have a spare pair
available for you to use. Day trips out in the open
can be bright and sunglasses do help to keep your
eyes from getting very tired.
