lets make the most of it!
This 14 Day South Africa Safari / tour combines exciting wildlife safaris in the best game reserves in South Africa with activities and some time for relaxing on the beaches of subtropical KwaZulu Natal and Southern Mozambique... Day 1: Durban International Airport to St. LuciaWe pick you up from the King
Shaka International
airport
from where we
travel northwards to St. Lucia, at the southern end of the iSimangaliso
Wetlands Park. This quiet little town lies within the iSimangaliso
Wetlands Park (Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park) and at night hippos and
other animals are often seen in town.
Day 2: Walk along estuary and Hippo & Croc boat tourToday we take it easy, allowing
you some time to
recover
from the long
flight. If you wish, we can take you on a walk along the banks of the
St Lucia Estuary. In the afternoon we go on a boat tour on
the St
Lucia estuary, where there are approximately 800 hippopotamus, 1200
Nile crocodiles, and an impressive number and diversity of water birds.
For the more adventurous we can swop the boat tour for a kayak safari!
Day 3: iSimangaliso Wetlands SafariThe iSimangaliso Wetland Park
is known as South
Africa's
premier bush
& beach destination, with large populations of
animals as
well as untouched sandy beaches which stretch for as far as the eye can
see, and has completely different ecosystems and landscapes compared to
those within Kruger and Hluhluwe-Umfolozi. Today we will take you on a
game drive through the St Lucia wetlands 37km to the beach at Cape
Vidal. We will serve lunch there and you will have time to relax on the
beach or to swim the sea.
Day 4: Whale watching and volunteeringIn the morning we take you
whale watching from St
Lucia
where we search
for the migrating humpback whales and often get to see them from as
close as 50 meters. In the afternoon you have the opportunity
to
join a local volunteering organisation in the local Zulu community to
learn more about the culture of the Zulu tribe.
Day 5: St Lucia - Hluhluwe-iMfolozi ParkFrom St. Lucia we take you to
the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi
Park,
internationally renowned for its rhino conservation efforts and its
large rhino population. The park has stunning savanna landscapes with
rolling hills and has all of the Big 5 animals of Africa We
spend
the night in one of the southern bush camps so we can explore the
Umfolozi Game Reserve early following morning, to search for the big
cats and a variety of other animals and birds.
Day 6: Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park SafariHaving spent the night in one
of the northern camps
in the
Hluhluwe
Game Reserve, we will spend the day on safari in the north of the park,
looking for animals we did not see yesterday. Lunch will be served on a
beautiful spot on the banks of the Hluhluwe river from where we can see
the animals coming down to drink.
Day 7: Hides of Mkhuze ParkWe leave the Hluhluwe iMfolozi
Park in the morning
and
travel to Mkhuze
where we will spend some time in one of the animal and birdwatching
hides in the afternoon. The hide is situated in the middle of a water
hole where the animals drink. This time we let the animals and birds
come to us, a great opportunity for wildlife and bird photography.
Day 8: Mkhuze Park to Kosi Bay to Ponto D’Ouro Time for some sun,
sea and sand! From
Mkhuze we
travel to Kosi
Bay, a beautiful lagoon where we will visit the traditional fish traps
the Thonga people have used for centuries, and we will have some time
for snorkeling at Kosi Mouth. In the afternoon we travel across the
South Africa – Mozambique border to the coastal holiday town of Ponto
DoOuro in the south of Mozambique.
Day 9: Swimming with wild dolphins in MozambiqueThis morning we all
board a small boat for
a
trip out to
sea where you have a 80% chance of swimming/snorkeling with wild
dolphins, in an ethical, responsible and animal friendly project linked
to the University of Maputo. We also often see manta rays, whale sharks
and turtles! In the afternoon we can all relax on the pristine white
beaches and wallow in the warm clean waters of the Indian Ocean.
Day 10: Scuba diving or swimming with wild dolphinsToday you have the choice of
doing another dolphin
swim,
or going on a
scuba diving trip with a qualified scuba diving dive instructor to
explore the beautiful reefs of southern Mozambique.
Day 11: Scuba diving, dolphin swim and/or relaxing on the beachToday’s itinerary is up you:
scuba diving again,
maybe
another dolphin
swim, or just enjoying the beach. You will also have the opportunity to
do a surfing or kite surfing lesson?
Day 12: Ponto D’Ouro - Tembe Elephant ParkWe leave Mozambique today and
travel to the Tembe
Elephant
Park where
we spend the night in an authentic safari tent camp. Tembe is
a
special place only accessible for 4x4 vehicles and only 10
vehicles are allowed into the park on any day. In
addition,
Tembe is the only place in South Africa where one can find the
indigenous elephants of Maputaland. These Maputaland Great Tuskers
are bigger than elephants found elsewhere in South Africa. In
the
afternoon we will look for these giants in an open safari vehicle.
Day 13: Kosi Forest LodgeAfter an early morning safari
looking for more huge
elephants and the
other members of the Big 5 in Tembe, we make our way to the Kosi Forest
Lodge. There we will have the option to do a guided kayak safari
through the mangroves or enjoy a leisurely walk through the magical and
