Kosi Bay turtle tours begin in November and continue until mid-March when the turtle nesting and hatching season comes to an end. Kosi Bay is the best place in South Africa to do a turtle tour because at Kosi Bay there is the highest concentration of turtles nesting anywhere along the entire African coastline.

Sea turtles come from hundreds, and in some cases thousands of kilometers away to nest at Kosi Bay because the area offers perfect turtle nesting areas and strict protection of the sea turtles and turtle eggs. No driving on the beaches is allowed at Kosi Bay and all the Kosi Bay Turtle Tours are by foot. There are indiscriminateturtle tour operators further south of Kosi Bay who still use vehicles on the beach during turtle nesting season and we believe that vehicle based turtle tours should come to an end....noisy 4x4 vehicles on the beach in a Turtle Sanctuary?????

The Kosi Bay turtle tours are run by members of the local community who have concessions issued by KZNCS on an annual basis. All proceeds go directly to the local Thonga community living at KwaDapha and Bhanga Nek.
